When do I put my garbage out to the curbside?

Garbage & recyclables are to be placed at the curb at 7am the day of and no earlier than 6pm the night before! 

What is the limit of bags / containers aloud out for pick up?

The city of London requires that all residents have a 3 garbage bag /  container limit! For duplex, triplex, etc., 3 containers / garbage bags  are permitted per legal unit. 

Note: Businesses are permitted to set out 12 bags of garbage per collection but trade waste is not accepted! 

Container & Garbage bag restrictions!

All residents must use plastic garbage bags! Residents may also use  metal or plastic cans in order to use the city garbage collection program. The minimum size allowed is  a 30 litre, maximum  size 125 litres. Do not place grocery or kitchen bags to the curb unless they are in containers or garbage bags!

The   maximum weight allowed per garbage bag / container  is 20 kg (44 lbs).  If you do exceed this limit you garbage bag or container will not be  accepted! When it rains and you have a container  with no lid it will exceed the weight limit! Please drain water before  7am the day of your collection!

Garbage container lids must be easily detachable. Do not tie lids down with hinges, ropes and bungee cords. 

Why was my garbage was not collected?

  • Your garbage bag or container weighed more than 20 kg (44 lbs) or was larger than 125 Litres


  • Your garbage contained yard materials or other non-collectable items


  • Your garbage was set out in exceeding the 3 garbage bag / container limit. Garbage bag tags can be purchased to exceed your 3 garbage bags / containers limit if needed


  • Your garbage was placed inside a cardboard box or in small plastic bags


  • You did not  place your garbage at the curb by 7 a.m. for collection!


  • The lid on the garbage container was tied down with a bungee cord, a rope or other restraining materials.


  • Your garbage was not placed at the curb, it was place on private property!


  • Your garbage was set out on a snow bank


  • Your mattresses or furniture infested with bed bugs and was not properly sealed!


  • Your garbage bags were ripped apart

Non - Collectables

All Items that are Metal or Electronic are accepted by That Metal Guy! Please contact for more information!


We  strongly advise that you divert any type of metal , electronic, wiring  & batteries for your garbage bags, blue bins & garbage  containers to help make a difference and keep our landfills clean  providing our future with a green and cleaner system!

​Items that are not to be collected with curbside garbage are:

  • All construction and renovation materials such as drywall, fence boards, concrete, bricks, asphalt and cupboards.


  • Paint  and stains, These items can be disposed of at the citys Household  Special Waste Depot or at your local RONA, Lowe's or two area Home  Hardware stores. 


  • Appliances and electronics can be recycled with That Metal Guy Recycling!


  • Scrap  metals such as propane tanks, barbecues, bicycle frames, tire rims,  swing sets, metal  fences posts , car parts, Propane tanks,  appliances, televisions, computer monitors and other electronics etc.  can be recycled with That Metal Guy Recycling


  • Needles - Place in  a hard plastic container and contact your local pharmacy, or the  Middlesex London Health Unit (519-663-5317), or visit the Health Steward  website for disposal information. 


  • All tires, compact fluorescent light bulbs & tubes,  are not collected at the curb

Large bulky items

  • Large items such as couches, sofa beds , mattresses and other  furniture can be placed at the curb on your scheduled garbage collection  day. All sofa beds you must remove the mattress and tie the springs down
  • If  furniture or mattresses are soiled or suspected to have bed bugs, the  item must be wrapped and sealed tightly in a mattress bag.  You can  visit the Health Unit website for more information.​ If bed bugs are infested on your items please take it serious for the safety of our garbage men and the sake of it spreading.


  • Carpet must be cut to 1 meter (39") lengths and tied in bundles.

Do the garbage collectors accept broken glass?

The garbage collectors do accept broken glass as long as you completely  seal it in a cardboard box and label it  as broken glass or sharps.  Do  not exceed the weight limit mentioned above, and do not place box  outside in the rain to ensure the safety of our garbage collectors!  Damaged cardboard boxes have the potential of breaking and cutting the  handlers.

Winter curbside rule

Please place all garbage bags and containers on level ground and near  the curb. Do not place on snow banks If there is no level ground please  shovel an area on the curb or close to the curb to help prevent garbage  cans tipping over into traffic making a mess as well as the garbage men  accessibility. Your garbage will not be taken if not accessible!
